Stable Isotope Rate Mass Spectrometer Perspective

The Nu Instruments Perspective geometry forms the basis for two state of the art IRMS instruments. Designed for flexibility, high performance and reliability, it has the ability to achieve precise measurements from the smallest sample. The Perspective with its standard collector block sets a new benchmark in performance for routine stable isotope ratio applications for the measurement of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, sulphur and hydrogen. The addition of the IS collector block, transforms the instrument into the Perspective IS, which has the capability to analyse clumped isotopes with exceptional sensitivity and linearity.

  • Capable of analyzing solid, liquid and gas samples.
  • High efficiency ion source with focusing lens.
  • Completely different vacuum system, maximum efficiency with both continuous injection or parallel dual flow technology.
  • Safety designed electronics with self-diagnostic capability.
  • Stable electromagnet with Hall probe control.
  • High efficiency with narrow separation range and deep Faraday cup.
  • Array type collector with adjustable separation distance using Variable Zoom Optics.
  • Array of Faraday cups with photonic tuning technology.
  • The entire block including H2 is measured over the entire moving range.
  • The ion beam after separation is adjusted to different offsets to ensure complete collection by the Faraday cup
  • The device ensures that the following possibilities that can occur with devices using the Universal Triple Fraday cup are completely eliminated:
  • The cup is not deep enough to ensure that the entire peak point is scanned perpendicularly.
  • The cup is not capable of collecting stray ions, leading to reduced sensitivity.
  • More importantly, the Faraday cups can collect unwanted peaks. next to it. For example, in the analysis of carbonates, a peak of 46amu may appear simultaneously.
  • The Faraday cups are arranged in a series with a very narrow and fixed distance to ensure high accuracy.
  • The magnetic field of the device has an electronic lens that adjusts the ion beam to the exact position of the Faraday cup with the entire separation mass range.

• High efficiency ion source with integral focussing lenses

• Fully differentially pumped as standard

• Hall probe stabilised electromagnet

• High efficiency, narrow entrance, deep Faraday collectors

• Amplifiers capable of measuring signals to 55V

• 100% analyser transmission

• State-of-the-art electronics with full self-diagnostics

• Unique SIRMS collector arrays using “Variable Zoom Optics” (with no moving parts)

• All masses, including H2, are measured at the full deflection radius

• Integral ion source heater (temperature up to 200oC)

• Simultaneous ion beam collection using up to twelve Faraday collectors

• All masses measured at full 8kV accelerating potential

• Mass resolution CNOS and H (m/Δm) >200 (10% valley)

• Mini electrostatic filters for measurement of clumped isotopes and HD

The Dual Inlet system is located in a separate cabinet next to the Perspective, with the changeover block mounted close to the sample inlet valve on the ion source housing to minimise dead volume and gas path lengths. The dual inlet allows high precision measurements of a sample gas against a reference gas. Sample gas can be introduced into the dual inlet directly or via a sample preparation device such as the NuCarb.

Standard gas injection system for up to 5 gasses (2 injectors supplied as standard). Computer controlled reference gas peak (to match sample peak intensity. Computer controlled mixer, user adjustable from no mix to 30 times drop mix. Pneumatic isolation valve to isolate IRMS source

No Inter-sample Changeover Memory Effects

Any sample preparation system that is designed to sequentially analyse samples with variable isotopic composition has the potential to exhibit memory effects. However, the unique design of the Perspective’s Dual Inlet changeover valve ensures that there are negligible source/changeover valve mixing effects when switching between samples, with sample switching times as low as 4 seconds.

Elemental Analyzer with Furnace and Pyrolysis

Prepare solid inlet samples for stable isotope analysis of C, N, O, H, S. Can be operated as a stand-alone system for elemental concentration analysis. High-speed chromatography, reducing analysis time to 5 minutes, saving Helium and allowing much higher throughput per day. Ultra-sensitive TCD technology. Highly sensitive detector allows measurement from low ppm traces up to 100% on all elements, providing excellent linearity and stability.

Gas Chromatography

Designed to fit Perspective including split and splitless injectors, 100-position autosampler, 5MS chromatography column, consumable column set for CHONS

Laser burner

Internally polished stainless steel sample path with high vacuum valves and tubing. Fluorine-resistant nickel trap, including high purity NaCl crystal trap substrate. Fluorine-resistant pressure transducer for reaction pressure control.
