Powering the MICADAS is a vacuum-insulated 200 kV tandem accelerator, utilizing a maintenance-free solid-state power supply, eliminating the need for SF₆ or other insulation gases. The integrated gas ionization detector provides reliable ¹⁴C ion detection, enabling the measurement of blanks older than 50,000 radiocarbon years.
For enhanced automation, the MICADAS seamlessly integrates with the Gas Interface System (GIS), facilitating fully automated gas measurements with various peripherals like auto samplers, Elemental Analyzers (EA), or CO₂ filled tubes. This makes it an ideal solution for small samples and high-throughput laboratories.
The system is designed for user convenience, featuring ACS software for easy remote access and automated tuning, and an enhanced lab management package (LMP) for data reduction and management. With an extremely low power consumption of 2.5 kW and a fully air-cooled design, the MICADAS boasts minimal infrastructure requirements and reduced operational costs. Its robust control system includes built-in backup and alarm systems, ensuring reliable and continuous operation.
